All these gadgets and devices have developed the standard of living for humanity so much that we simply cannot live without them. These gadgets and devices include cell phones, television, the internet, computers, iPhones, iPods, consoles like the Wii and many more. It is possible to live without them however. For all it's wonders, technology also has a downside, which is that fact that as it progresses; people will become and will continue to turn more lazy.

As mentioned already, modern technology has become ingrained the in fiber of all of human society but it has brought a terrible condition with it. Modern technology can make people lazy, selecting to sit on their butts looking at an electron screen for hours rather than doing something outside or exercising. The internet is a fountain of information but it has become more obvious over the last few years that people tend to go to communities that have similar ideologies and views and avoid those with differing opinions. What is created is homogeneous online communities with no discrepancy and a big subverting of the foundations of democracy.

Traveling by vehicles like cars or buses are a necessity in the modern world, but these habits are what makes the world appear so bone-lazy nowadays. Many people now are too lazy to even commit themselves to taking a walk around the block to your destination. Now a days everyone possesses a car that they can and do take everywhere, even if it's just a teensy walking distance down the street or around the corner. I am not trying to appear as a luddite as technology has evidently made cars and almost everything in life much safer to be in or around. Car companies love to brag about how their newest vehicle have high crash test ratings, and numerous of air bags which is something to be proud of. So while the new innovations in cars may make people more aloof, cars are essential in life so maybe the innovations in safety are more important then the lazy factor.

One of the great innovations, cell phones have connected humanity closer than ever before. Cellphones have allowed anybody, anywhere to call anyone, anywhere with a touch of a few buttons (assuming the signal is well and you are willing the pay additional fees). Cellphones have however led to the growth of the 'texting' culture and it's execrations of our language and conversation skills but it's just a small price to pay for the networking of the human race.

Video games have congealed themselves in modern culture as a great outlet for entertainment, learning and refreshment. Despite what you listen from soccer moms about how video games develop kids to become terrorists, video games actually have an result like to those movies you see in theaters. They allow you to become someone else and feel things from a brand new perspective which is great for personal maturation. Video games are also great for social gatherings and encountering people.

Technology is impressive, it has changed humanity for the better and bettered the standards of living for everyone in ways that we couldn't even believe were possible. Modern technology has some faults but for all the good it has done, it is more than worth it. Tools for social networking, better safety for everything, entertainment and a great deal more, technology is wonderful as long as you maintain a level of self-command.

Source: EzineArticles.com

Basics of Files and Folders in Windows Vista

This article shows you how to manage files and folders. It starts off by discussing what files and folders are before explaining what you can do with them and how to use Windows Explorer, Windows’ primary file-management tool. Windows Explorer is vital to using Windows effectively. You can use Windows Explorer to search for files and folders, to manipulate them, to view them in different ways, and to delete them, either temporarily or permanently. You can also use Windows Explorer to compress and uncompress files and folders, either to save space or to make archive files that are easy to handle. At the end of the article, you’ll find a section on how to configure AutoPlay’s behavior and how to customize folders in Windows Explorer.

Understanding the Basics of Files and Folders

If you’ve used computers at all, you’ll know that a file is a named object containing information that’s stored on a disk. The disk can be a local hard drive; a networked drive including a web server; a CD, DVD, or other removable drive; a tape drive; or even a humble floppy drive. Each file has a name so that you and the computer can distinguish it. In Windows, each filename can be up to 255 characters long. Filenames can include letters, numbers, and some punctuation, such as commas ,, periods ., semicolons ;, single quotation marks ‘‘, or apostrophes ‘. Filenames cannot contain forward slashes /, backslashes \, colons :

, asterisks *, question marks ?, double quotation marks “, less-than <> signs, or pipe characters |, because Windows either uses those characters literally or assigns special meanings to them. For example, a colon is used to denote a drive for instance, C:

refers to the C:

drive, and an asterisk is a wildcard character that represents one or more characters in searches and commands. The 255 characters include the path to the file. The path also sometimes called the directory path gives the sequence of drive and folders that describes the location of the file and folders. For example, if a file is in the Documents folder in the \Will\ folder of the \Users\ folder on the C:

drive, the path to that file is C:

\Users\Will\Documents. That path is 23 characters long, including the backslashes and the spaces, so any file stored in that folder can have a filename of up to 232 characters 255 minus the 23 characters in the path. A folder is a file that can contain other files or folders. By using folders, you can organize your files into categories. Folder names can be up to 255 characters long, but you’ll need to keep them shorter than this if you want to use long filenames within the folders. The possible length of a folder name also includes the path to the folder and the length of any filenames that the folder already contains. If you rename a folder so that the path and filename of a file it contains add up to more than 255 characters, you can no longer access the file. When working in a graphical environment such as Windows, you don’t normally need to type paths to files the way you often had to in DOS and similar text-based operating systems. Instead, you use graphical representations of folders and files to navigate to the folders and files you need, and then manipulate them in graphical windows. Some of this you do with Windows Explorer discussed in the next section, and some via dialog boxes in the individual programs.

Using Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer is Windows’ built-in utility for managing files and folders - all kinds of files and folders, including the files and folders that make up the Start menu, those that make up Control Panel, and so forth. Windows Explorer is a separate program from Internet Explorer, the web browser that you use for browsing the Internet. This article uses Windows Explorer to refer to Windows Explorer including those for Computer, Network Connections, Control Panel, and so on, Internet Explorer to refer to any Explorer window that calls itself Internet Explorer, and descriptive terms such as the Desktop, the Taskbar, and the notification area to refer to the named components of the shell.

Troubleshooting:
Close and Restart Windows Explorer if Your Desktop Stops Responding

As well as letting you manage files and folders, Windows Explorer is also the shell for Windows - a logical layer that provides a graphical interface that lets you interact with Windows without talking code. Windows Explorer runs the Desktop, the Taskbar, the notification area, and the other components of the Windows interface.

Normally, this fact is just a curiosity, but if the Desktop stops responding, you may be able to bring it back under control by closing and restarting Windows Explorer. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Right-click open space on the Taskbar and choose Task Manager from the context menu. Windows displays Task Manager.

2. Click the Processes tab. Windows displays the Processes page.

3. Select the process named EXPLORER.EXE.

4. Click the End Process button. Task Manager displays a Task Manager Warning dialog box warning that terminating the process could lose your data or cause your system to be unstable.

5. Click the Yes button. Task Manager terminates Windows Explorer. The Taskbar and notification area disappear, together with the Start button and all your Desktop icons. Task Manager keeps running.

6. Still in Task Manager, choose File New Task Run. Windows displays the Create New Task dialog box.

7. Type Explorer in the Open text box.

8. Click the OK button. Windows closes the Create New Task dialog box and runs Windows Explorer. Back come your icons, the Start button, the Taskbar, and the notification area, together with all their functionality.

Starting Windows Explorer

The easiest way to start Windows Explorer is to click the Start button so that Windows displays the Start menu, and then choose one of the shortcuts associated with Windows Explorer:

Documents, Pictures, Music, Computer, or Network if this shortcut appears on the Start menu. Each of these opens a Windows Explorer window to the specified folder. You can also run Windows Explorer by choosing Start All Programs Accessories Windows Explorer. Doing so opens a Documents window in Explore mode.

Exploring My Computer

If you choose Start Computer, Windows displays an Windows Explorer window showing the contents of the Computer folder, as in the example.

Forward button and Back button When you’ve navigated from one folder to another in the Windows Explorer window, you can click the Back button to go back to each previous folder in turn. After using the Back button, you can click the Forward button to go forward again. When you first open an Windows Explorer window, there’s no folder path for you to move along. Recent Pages drop-down list Click the Recent Pages drop-down list to display a list of the folders you’ve used recently. To jump to a folder, select it in the list. Address bar The Address bar indicates which folder the Windows Explorer window is displaying. You can click one of the triangle buttons to display a list of contents in the folder named before the button. For example, you can click the triangle button to the right of Computer to display a list of the folders and objects contained in the Computer folder. Toolbar The Toolbar contains buttons for taking widely used actions in Windows Explorer. The Organize button and the Views button display drop-down menus of commands. Search box To search for a file or folder, click in the Search box, and then type the search term or terms. Windows searches as you type. Favorite Links area The Favorite Links area in the left panel contains links to frequently used folders, such as Documents, Pictures, and Music. The set of links changes depending on which folder is displayed in the Windows Explorer window. When the Folders pane is displayed, you may need to click the More item at the bottom of the Favorite Links list to access the links at the bottom of the list.

Folders bar Click the Folders bar to toggle the display of the Folders pane on and off. The Folders pane lets you navigate through drives and folders by using a hierarchical arrangement of icons:

Each drive appears as an expandable item, with the folders it contains appearing below it when you expand it; similarly, you can expand those folders to reveal their subfolders beneath them.

Document window The document window displays the contents of the folder shown in the Address bar. Windows Explorer provides several different views for the document window, as you’ll see later in this article. The folder’s contents can be sorted into groups:

Hard Disk Drives, Devices with Removable Storage floppy disk drives, optical drives, and removable disks such as USB drives, Network Location network folders to which this computer is connected, and Other which contains items such as My Sharing Folders, folders shared using the Windows Live Messenger instant-messaging software.

Info :http://www.web-articles.info

Is Oracle Recruiting MySQL Software Into Its Empire?

With Oracle's recent $7.38 billion dollar buyout of Sun Microsystems, some new product recipes are bound to end up on the fattened company's revisited menu. New head chef Larry Ellison is now directing the flavor of Sun's software products, and some people are concerned for possible drastic changes, especially during this economic recession and the necessity for Oracle to bring in new channels of revenue. One possible change-of-course could be converting Sun's incredibly popular MySQL to a pay-for Software, which would bring thousands of businesses and software developers to their feet in protest.

MySQL software allows people and companies alike to access and manage their website databases. MySQL is open source software, which means people can download it free of charge as well as access and contribute to the software's code. To date, there have been over 11 million installations of the product, including high profile use by companies like Facebook, Google and Wikipedia. In the past, Sun has only marginally monetized MySQL through paid offerings like software updates and extended product support.

Ellison and Oracle could tap into the huge MySQL userbase as a new profit channel by converting it to enterprise software - charging customers through a licensing fee . This could simultaneously provide a gargantuan influx of revenue to Oracle, as well as alienate millions of open-source customers who currently rely on the software. It seems like a drastic strategy, however, the current economic recession could call for Oracle's management to search for extreme ways to prepare for future leaks in revenue. Although Oracle has so far remained relatively unscathed by the economic depression, their buyout of Sun is clearly forward thinking to potential future hardships.

Ellison has been known to be quite the staunch competitor and would not necessarily let the alienation of current MySQL users deter him from a new business opportunity. With a net worth of approximately $27 billion, Ellison has been known for his hard-nosed leadership, obsession with Samurai warrior culture, and refusal to take 'no' as an answer. Whether it be a whale-sized luxury yacht, an unwelcome company buyout, or a change to MySQL's monetization strategy- he most often gets what he wants. Ellison was most aptly personified during Oracle's hostile takeover of human resource and recruiting software company PeopleSoft in 2004, jokingly saying he'd shoot opposing CEO Craig Conway (rather than his dog).

Converting MySQL into a paid enterprise service may not be the best move for Oracle, as there are several other open source competitors that current MySQL users could jump to. PostrgreSQL is one such alternative that may welcome a MySQL paid solution, as they would surely gain a large customer influx.

Although transforming MySQL into a paid enterprise service would certainly push a large portion of the current userbase away, there would also be some who would likely stay with the service, even if meant a fee. Many MySQL users have a brand affiliation with the software as well as a deep familiarity with utilizing it.

It is pretty uncertain what would happen if Ellison and Oracle took MySQL in this new direction- although during the current times, anything is possible.

recruiting software
By Darwin Redshield

What Would You Do With 100 Times the Bandwidth?

The annual Interop IT conference in Las Vegas kicked off last weekend, allowing IT companies and manufacturers to show us some glimpses into the future of Information Technology. One of the most interesting conversations that was recently mentioned on the Inside Interop Blog posed the question: what would you do with 20 times the bandwidth you currently have? This may become a possibility very soon, so I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of future applications that could exist with a much bigger pipe (up to 100x what we have now). I'd also like to open up the discussion to encompass increased speed on all different types of networks, whether it be connecting from your home office or via a mobile device.

1. Cell Phone Video Conferencing...for real

Although this is a technology that is possible with current 3G networks, it has not caught on yet with widespread use. With the proper upstream and downstream speeds, a person will be able to effortlessly broadcast their visual persona while speaking. This needs to be seamless in quality and transfer, only dropping out as much as a normal phone call would. There also needs to be some advancement in the hardware available to facilitate looking at the screen while speaking (such as in a car).

2. Super High Def Live Video

Streaming video quality is currently still more limited than the latest display technology. Whether it be a live video feed broadcast through a site like Qik.com or on-demand video from YouTube, all of this has the potential to be displayed in incredible high definition with the proper bandwidth. You could watch your family across the country eat their thanksgiving dinner live, complete with high definition shots of mom's homemade stuffing.

Two clubs, one in Rome and one in San Francisco, could 'connect' their dance floors by providing high definition live feeds to one another on massive screens. This 'portal' could also allow visitors to talk with their international counterparts at specific designated video booths. Sure, applications like this currently are possible, but who wants 'em when the quality is grainy.

3. Multiple applications running simultaneously

Applications that are run from the cloud and accessed via our mobile devices will require an increasing amount of bandwidth. It is understated how important it is, especially for today's mobile work warrior, to be able to run multiple applications at once. As applications become more complex by mashing up several functions, it will be a necessity to have more bandwidth to run them.

4. Games streamed straight to the device

Along the same lines as running more complex applications, games that require more processing but live almost completely in the cloud will require more bandwidth throughput. MMORPGs will become more realistic and involve more in-game character interaction, which in turn will necessitate a very realistic (and speedy) data-return.

5. Augmented Reality

Imagine looking through your cell phone camera lens and receiving real-time data about everything that you point it at. You direct your camera at a painting and immediately get information about the artist, how much a replica would cost, and are provided the means to buy it on the spot. Although this technology already exists to some extent, it needs more bandwidth to truly become useful. The image processing needs to be in real-time and provide instant information to the end-user.

Applications such as these are guaranteed to be on their way as new 4G mobile networks like WiMax are rolled out, which provide far larger pipes for our data-transfer needs. Companies like Clearwire and Cisco are helping pave the way with their technologies- our network infrastructure already has used router and hardware infrastructure of theirs extensively. As our thirst for higher definition, real time communication, and international connectivity increases, it is inevitable that the technology will meet the demand

By Darwin Redshield

The Progress of Science With Computers

Science has invented many things. The triumphs of science are too many to be counted. Some of the latest triumphs of science are really wonderful. They are quite remarkable discoveries. It has made our life easier by the computer a few years ago. It is considered as the brains of the human beings. It has opened up new vistas. These can make any number of calculations, modes of particulars hypothetical situations can be produced & studied.

In business, businessmen can simply deal through internet with their client regarding quantity and quality of the materials they require and can satisfy their clients. They can also give advertisement of their company through internet to attract more customers towards it. In schools, children are given knowledge about software of computer like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and for small kids games are available in PCs for their refreshment. Through computers, we can easily chat or give tenders, graphics to the person living in other parts of the world. We can also do e-commerce through computer by booking for the product & delivery is done at home. We can also come to know about new products and their prices through PC. Now, a days all the designers shows their talent of design through websites. We can also send picture on any topic to the person living in other parts of the world via email. We can now book railway tickets and airplane tickets with the help of internet. Thus it helps us to save time because initially people had to stand in long queues for booking which used to consume much time. Now, a days all the queries are solved with the help of video conferencing and tele-conferencing. In computer we have to only feed the data and it gives us the accurate result in a time not less than a second.

It has certain disadvantages too. It has created the problem of unemployment. Initially people use to keep accountant for keeping their records of their business but with the invention of accounting software, need of personnel has reduced. Thus, computer ha relaxed mankind in a number of ways by making their life easier to a great extent. So, it has been a boon to the mankind.

By CD Mohatta

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 Review

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is the best choice for those who spend a lot of time on the computer and tend to develop hands and wrist pains. I am in front of the computer and using a mouse the whole day and sometimes it extends into the wee hours of the night. I thought that only people who have poor posture and who have poor hands positions when using the computer are the ones that get wrist pains. Now I know that even mice can cause them.

When I started using this mouse, I was pleasantly surprised by how much ease of movement it gives to my hands. The center scroll wheel doesn't make scrolling hard for my fingers and my carpal tunnel. It is very smooth and it doesn't make any sound. I use this feature frequently and the principal reason why I bought this is because it felt good under my finger index and middle fingers.

The size of the mouse makes it lightweight and very easy on my hands and fingers. I have small hands so the small size fits me perfectly. I don't need a mouse pad for it to perform well.

It is very responsive. I don't have to move it with big strokes for the cursor to go the place I want it to go. The left and right button also responds even with very small movement of the finger.

Since using this mouse, I never had any wrist pains again. Working with this mouse and my laptop is such a pleasure since I bought Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000.

For more information, check other Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 reviews.

Erika Ayala works part time for a consumer review company.

By Erika Ayala

Privacy Policy

If you require any more information or have any questions about our privacy policy, please feel free to contact us by email at rafibaiki@gmail.com.

At http://info-technology-now.blogspot.com, the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us.
